Michelle at Sen. Grassley's office has contacted dialysis patients on short notice to be interviewed by CNN. Has anyone at DE who is most qualified to present the advocacy issues been contacted? If not, CNN will only get part of the story. Reimbursement will be begged for and the most essential issues like patients on the stock market, nephrologists immune from the Stark Law and ESRD networks have to go will be left out.

The story will be one sided it appears. This is Senator Grassley's attempt to cover up the issues one more time and it appears will side with the industry once again.<
><
>We have not been contacted to present the hard issues,at this time. This is another attempt we feel to cover up the real issues. <
><
>We see this as an attempt by the industry with Senator Grassley support to beg for more money. It would suprise us if it was non-biased. They appear to be outraged, funny though that this man has been indifferent and has nothing to help the patients with the last GAO report in 2000. He just held his hand hand out and took Amigen money for his 2001 election. He's due for a new donation in 2004. WOuld hope I was wrong, but only have dealt with his history.<

I have the email and have been asked to give it out. Please email to the following: Put down your issues and what is really like for you. <

>cnn@cnn. com<

>Senator Grassley knows that it will take hearings to change the laws. He isnt going to do it. We are in a great spot in DC, and figured he would do just a press conference. He has been indifferent to you guys all along. Now we email the truth and how he let us down. <
><
>As I have stated before, he will change nothing. He has to have the press conference. He has to dump off the GAO report. We are in a good place and let him do his mike time. It will bite him in the end, we still are doing our other options. This is just a hiccup, can not expect a person to change their position. He has an election coming up. <
><
>We wont have patients going to slaughter, while others get paid.

If the airing is tomorrow is there time to email them? Is CNN reputable or do they just want a fast, sensational story? If they were wise would they have trusted the Senator's office without checking further to make sure the story was true? Were they duped or do they not care if they give one sided reporting?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The reason that they wanted to have a press conference is because they dont want to clean up the industry at all. No intention of doing it. When they contacted us for patients names, they got the hard ones. The ones that are dismissed. If they wanted to do what was right, they know as we do that it would take Senate Hearings.<
><
>I called this before. I knew that Grassley was not interested in protecting patients. He was outraged in 2000 and was angered for the camera, that "No patient should be afraid to dialize, this will not be tolorated"<
>Guess what he was so outraged that he held his hand out for election money from the industry. <
><
>He has waited 5 1/2 years and has done nothing. He knows it can onlly change with Senate Hearings and he my friends is only one Senator. This is nothing more than TV time, it was never about doing the right thing. He will make a few changes, but nothing of substance to clean up this industry.<
><
>We have a paper trail that not even he can wiggle out of. He has had full knowledge for at least 5 1/2 years. Standards of Care? He has even known about the witness death in retaliation, as he has known about the patients dismissals since 2000, and never stood up to the plate. We will have the last say. We are much higher on the food chain in DC.<
><
>Grassley and others are not about helping, just TV time. We are having our say, but timing is of the essence.<
><
>SO EMAIL and hand it out.<

Posted: Tue Nov 04, 2003 10:19 am    Post subject: Few are the True Advocates

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The wool is easily pulled over the eyes of most patients and professionals, because they are self-centered and don't want the truth. The majority of patients only care about their own personal health rather than the wellbeing of the dialysis patient population at large. And the majority of professionals only care about the profits. There is such a small percentage of honest people on both sides who stand up for what's right. <
><
>It tickles the ego to be called "advocate" although the title is not earned and the issues are not understood. What's really sad is when patients sell out to Industry not discerning the true issues. <
><
>Patients with good educations are just as duped as those without the education to know what's going on. Because wisdom only comes to those with true hearts. <
><
>So often is the handshake of death I see of patients too passive to know that the doctor is not really their friend. They shake the doctor's hand not realizing that he is outsmarting them, stealing their lives a little at a time.<
><
>And so it is with a media campaign like this - patients are shaking hands with the politians/media out of ignorance of the true issues. They're digging their own graves and the graves of the dialysis population. <
><
>ADVOCATE --it's a title that means something very significant, but only when truly earned. <
><
>It is really sad to see most of the more educated dialysis patients in ignorance of the true issues and falling right into the hands of the corrupt Industry and polititians. Goes to show that education doesn't necessarily = wisdom.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He has known the issues better than anyone. It will be more horse and pony. It would shock me if he did what was right. All he had to do was protect those that are citizens with no rights. He needed to stop the dumpings that have been going on for over 30 years. Needs to get rid of the ESRD Networks, and needs to take patients off the stock market ie: Stark Law.<
>Anything less than that is criminal.

>He can deny all he wants about not knowing what was going on in the Dialysis world, however each and every time that a letter and or an email was sent to him it was carbon copied to the media and other vital personal. Amazingly they all knew about it but he didn't ?? Duh----

What are you all talking about? What were you, are you, did you expect from CNN? If Senate hearings didn't help before why are they so important now? How does what anyone else does in the name of patients hurt what you are doing?
