--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am having fistula surgery Monday, my surgeon did do an ultrasound
of my arm and it looks as though I have a good vein. I was supposed
to have temporary cath put in as well. Is this surgery painful?
I have a question about creatin levels, bun levels. I saw my nephrologist in January, at that time he advised me that the time had come for dialysis. My kidneys have been getting progressivly worse since 2000.
My creatin level was 4.5, protein 645. Bun 44. He wanted to put in the catheter immediately. I saw my nephrologist yesterday. My creatin level is now 4.8 Bun 48.
How are these numbers? I really feel ill.
My nephroligist decided that I did not need the cathater, that I
could probably hold out intil fistula matures. I feel pretty lousy, and was looking forward to removing these toxins. However, I do not want the cathater if I do not need it, considering risks.

By judging from your other post you know how you are doing if you already new you were in fifth Stage, I don't understand why the Neph does not have you on dailysis already. and there is still alot I have to learn about dialysis and kidney failure. I don't know, maybe I read your post wrong.

Hi,
I am confused myself. Two weeks ago, my nephrologist wanted to place cathater immediately. Now , he wants me to hold on like I am until fistula matures.. even though my creatin leval increased a bit.
It does not make sense.
I feel so lousy....
Maybe it has something to do with medicaid....

Well my Neph told me you have to be down to 15% kidney function and stay down then Medicare will pay for dialysis. I have read too in Medicare that it is 15% so he must be right. By yours you are there so I can't help you there.

I had surgery, and it was quite painful. I had staples from underarm to elbow, they pulled to much skin together under arm , when closing, and I will probably have to have the incision opened up again.
It is a hideous looking scar, frankenstein...
My surgeon told me that my vein was smaller than he expected , and that there was a great possibility it will not work..
Sigh............

BY the way, I have not once been advised by my neph about diet, I even asked him one year ago, during a visit , about my diet, if there were any foods I should avoid, etc,,,
He said that it did not matter. I just needed to stop smoking and keep blood pressure down...
Now. here I am one year later, getting ready for dialysis...

I'm sorry! Yu sound like your in the same boat as I am, but I do have a PC doctor who is watching me very close and he is aware of what my Neph is doing. So I am more at ease these days.
