I think this quote was very telling:<
>"U.S. Attorney John McKay has defended the investigation, saying it sent a "strong message" to doctors at the UW and all teaching hospitals that they must comply with the rules."<
><
>They destroyed Dr. Couser's reputation, disrupted patient care and added significant costs to the UW's Nephrology program so they could send a message. They truth is they could have found the same billing discrepancies at most University teaching hospitals. Dr. Couser didn't gain financially, the nephrology program benefited, a program that provides alot of chairity care in this community. <

He still can practice. Some physicians are not that fortunate.

"Like me, you could.....be unfortunate enough to stumble upon a silent war. The trouble is that once you see it, you can't unsee it. And once you've seen it, keeping quiet, saying nothing, becomes as political an act as speaking out. Either way, you're accountable."

Arundhati Roy
