No, I'm not ready to take this story as truth, but I'm willing to admit that it might be possible - unlike you, who seem to have already made up your mind - a typical knee-jerk, reactionary response which you seem to excel at. Social lib? Actually I?m just a fellow who believes in what works, and in case you didn't notice the dialysis system doesn't seem to be working very well -
http://www.dialysisethics.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=558. But go ahead and put a label on me and spew your rhetoric, if it makes it easier for you.
Though we can all hope it is a hoax, I can find this story very within the realm of possibility, having met some of the people I've met - and not just in the field of dialysis - in this sort of thing you maybe the naive one. So given that, and the fact that I do trust my source, I don?t have much difficulty believing the sunglasses story.
I suppose too you would have objections to throwing a lifesaver to someone who is drowning because you don?t like them and that lifesaver cost you money; also once upon a time lifesavers weren?t around ? so you don?t have to throw it (I?m sorry, I?m failing to see your logic)

Oh, I don't think it's a hoax. I have no doubt that the guy exists and I have no doubt that he got the boot from his chronic unit. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if he said he got the boot from a few units. Where we differ is that you think he didn't do anything other than look at someone the wrong way and I, naivety and all, am pretty sure that his behavior in the chronic unit is abysmal.
There are people who I would not only not throw them a life preserver....I'd wave it and smile as they went down. You think Bin Laden or Massaoui (or Ted Kennedy) would get the life preserver? Are you for real man??

Do you really think this guy is in the same catagory as Osama? Maybe you should get real. You should remember the words of Reagan at this time "Trust - but verify".

You asked the question about not throwing a life preserver to someone I don't like. I answered the question on its own merits and independently of the rest of the thread. Bin Laden was used as an example. You are the one who somehow equated him with this guy, not I.

I have been silent, but this is anonymous board free of censorship! I am amazed about the patient being wrong and deserving this punishment. Who is deciding the death threat? It appears to be the clinics. The patient has the number as all of us do now.
Everyone has their day in court. There are no courts in this situation, the patient is dismissed.
True or not that is an individuals right to decide. I am amazed at what I am reading. I am only hoping that some of these individuals (narrow minded zealots) are not taking care of myself or anyone I love.
What goes around, will come around! It could be you! I just hope that you dont identify yourself as any religious background. You appear to be the radical one! Shame on you, if your even capable.

Dialysis is a right! It was passed in Congress and is a right! With it being a right, one should be awarded the dignity of humanity.
In this country you have the right to worship, freedom of speech and the right to due process!
It will probably be a liberal or humanitarian that may save you in the same situation, free of judgement!

I felt that in all fairness that the physician has a right to know that this is on our board. They will choose to respond or not!

If you can be thrown out of a clinic, apparently is is NOT a right, now is it?? I'll tell ya this chief...if I'm ever on dialysis, I'll realize it for the life-saving therapy that it is and I'll BEHAVE like an adult and not an angry child. I won't terrorize the staff and then question the reprecussions of doing so.

You mean you will behave better than you behave here? That is nice to hear. I get a little tired of having to delete some of your posts for name-calling - just a reminder, it won't be tolerated.

I don't know guest, if you were a patient I picture you as one who would be in real danger of being dumped - are you sure you aren't on the wrong side of the fence on this one?

The Denver Metropolitan region had 4 dialysis companies (now down to 3), 6 Nephrology groups all working independent of each other. Any individual who, due to physical or highly disruptive behavior, is dismissed from a Nephrology practice or a Dialysis provider has multiple choices. I know one group whose threshold for dismissal is physical harm or the threat of harm. Non-compliance, anger, race, religion, political beliefs, etc are not reasons for dismissal. The Dialysis companies will provide dialysis if there is a Nephrologist requesting the patients admission. However, if that patiet had a history of violent behavior or threatening behavior, then they would not be welcome. Safety for the staff and other patients is critical.
It is the rare and sad individual who creates an unsafe environment for patients and/or staff that
might end up in your situation. However, you are being cared for by a Nephrologist who could provide dialysis at any facility in town if she were to apply for privilages. I think there is much more to the story here. As for the African American angle, why is it that the hundreds of other African American ESRD pts in Denver have a safe and welcoming place to receive dialysis?

Not at all champ. I'm polite, civil, and have an appreciation for the times when I receive a precious gift. But I'm glad you agree that if I was a PITA, I SHOULD be dumped.

A little tired of deleting?? In this online wasteland? Who are you kidding? You ought to be thankful that this dead board has a little life now and then when I decide to chime in.

PostPosted: Sat Jun 10, 2006 5:45 am Post subject: there is dialysis then there is the system that runs it
Yes dialysis is a precious gift and a miracle. However there is the system that runs it which seems to have abused the trust they have been given - I find it hard to be grateful for them. I really wish I hadn't come to that conclusion but it is hard not to when even some of the big movers and shakers in dialysis are knocking the system -
http://www.dialysisethics.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=558By the way I never said you should be dumped if you were a patient, just could be. Even though you are annoying, it is hardly enough to want to see something like that happen.

I'll tell ya something else a little funny...............when it's someone in dialysis being ripped and called a name and accused of being racist.....all the etiquette and name-calling rules seem to go out the window. Let's be blunt here...if I was ripping the industry or someone in it, you people here would be salivating in lockstep agreement and begging for more. Hypocrits.

Ahhhhh.....the "system". If you want a better outcome than the "system" provides..I have a suggestion. Dig into your wallet and when the cobwebs and moths clear out, pull some cash outta there and pay for a better outcome. What?? Don't want to part with your own cash? That's what the taxpayer is for??
That's what I thought.
