There are good clinics around. Unfortunately not enough of them. This site is about everyone having a positive experience. Laws need to change and the truth needs to come forth. That is what this site was founded, was to alert everyone that they need to speak out and to ensure all patients have rights in their units. Truth isnt always pretty. It can be any clinic that is bought out and you could end up with no rights tomorrow.<

Shirts, I can't answer that question as I am not a patient. However, you have made me smile twice just asking it. Sometimes the posts are discouraging for those of us who are trying really hard to make a difference. It would be so nice to hear about something good that has happened in a unit. How someone has made a difference or done something right. So, thanks for the positive question and I hope there are some responses...just a few...that answer your question rather than speak of the politics. Just once.

How long have you been at this board? There have been many, many posts discussing both the good and the bad of dialysis. There is good in units where management is good. We all know that and are glad for the good units. Our work is about exposing the bad and coming up with ways to make the system accountable so all dialysis patients can have good care..not just some. For ex., I dialyze in a unit where the staff skips washing their hands. They are the nicest staff in the world..I could tell you about all the nice things they do. But until they wash their hands, I won't be able to sleep at night worrying about the patients and myself getting a bacterial blood infection! <
><
>When a person like you or Shirts comes on here and says the posts are discouraging and you'd like to hear something good for a change, I'd really like to know what your agendas are. Are you battling to
ing the good you talk of to dialysis? Or do you just like to be devisive? <
><
>Anytime someone hears of good it is reported to this board. We wish there was more good. We are in the trenches day and night..are you? What good can you say to encourage those who are fighting with all their might?

Gosh Hemo RN, there are plenty of rosey industry sights out there.<
>This site is about about patients and advocacy, which has long been denied by the industry. Patients are now educating themselves and asking questions which many staff can no longer answer, making staff feel uncomfortable thereby targeting those who question as troublemakers. Some patients actually have college degrees and this field of medicine is one that "informed consent" is lacking.<
>This is the only sight dedicated to patients who are being educated with both informed consent and actual rights guaranteed under Fed Laws.<
>Please feel free to visit Renalweb.com it is very light in education and only happy stories are there.<

YOU ASKED ABOUT MY "AGENDA"<
>I AM A 8 YEAR DIALYSIS PT<
>NO TRANSPLANT IN SIGHT<
>IN-CLINIC 3 TIMES A WEEK<
>52 YEARS OLD<
>MY AGENDA WOULD BE TO STAY ALIVE....ACTIVE AND MOST OF ALL POSITIVE WHILE LIVING WITH THIS DISEASE<
>I WAS JUST ASKING A SIMPLE QUESTION....I DID NOT MEAN FOR IT TO CAUSE ANY TROUBLE....BUT IF ANYONE CAN'T FIND ANY GOOD IN SOMETHING DON'T ACCUSE OTHERS OF MALICE<
>STAY WELL<
>GOD BLESS AMERICA

Well, I supposed this is going to shake things up a bit, but please all read to the end before passing judgement!<
>I go to wonderfull unit, but none the less problems can happen. When I first started dialysis they had me convinced I needed fluid taken off, but I didn't. Shame on them for not realizing there was a problem! However, I know that although ultimately it did hurt me, it wasn't done with malice. As a pt. I just don't fit into that dialysis mold they seem to want to shove us all into!<
>That being said, I don't think this board is JUST for those with problems to come and gripe. I've said it before and I will say it again, those of us who have it good should be thankfull for that and seek to find the same thing for others who now don't have it. From time to time I've seen posters who have problems bash those who don't and it really saddens me because it's counter productive. If you are in a poor unit how does it help matters to lash out at someone who isn't? Wouldn't it be far better to use diplomacy and enlist their help?<
>I just believe that those who can should, and that's what I'm trying to do! That's why I'm here. We ALL should be in good units; we ALL should be safe!<
>Shirts, my best experience so far was when everyone else thought I was in pee pee denial and needed fluid removed, there was a tech. who KNEW that wasn't the case and believed in me, and still does. I wish he could be cloned! We have to believe that somewhere somehow in dialysis world there are at least some good things can happen, otherwise what are we fighting for? Lin.

Shirts:<
>We do not mean to bash or deminish your attempt at staying positive. Staying positive can also be displayed by posting health increasing steps or articles and ideas on new announcements in the industry of dialysis improvement techniques. Which this board is loaded with and always welcomes more.<
><
>But with the current situation this is the only place for the truth to be displayed and where patients being miss treated can get help or just blow off steam. Which in fact is a very healthy positive action. It allows them relief to go back and face another day of demeaning, corrosive, suppressive hell.<
><
>I don't care how palatable your unit makes your dialysis treatment until the day that you get a minimum of 15 hours a week dialysis for 3 days, dialyzing on a F-70 or better with no reuse, with a KT/V

of 2.0 or better, seeing your doctor 2x a month, weekly blood labs to adjust your treatment (dialysate flow, calcium and sodium bath) and meds. (especially EPO) specifically for your body. Than you shirts are in fact being miss treated and kept barely alive. When you could in fact feel very good and close to normal. This is why this site has such fighters on it and I apologize if our directness makes you feel that we are so negative because in fact I find it the most positive healthy place to be in the dialysis community.<
><
>I have been saved in numerous ways over the past eight years of dialysis by workers who put their jobs on the line to protect my health. I have stated so in postings and so have a lot of other people. Those numerous posting are terrific examples of positive stories. Human interest and caring above and beyond the call of duty is the most anyone can give or report on for uplifting stories.<
><
>I all so feel that in the future if you look at the intent of the site or posting (even if negative) as a
other or sisters attempt to stay well and cry out the anger as positive and health giving. It might change your mind about looking for "positive" or happy posting. Because in fact they are already here.<
><
><
>Stay well and happy we will improve our current situation

if we all work together NO ONE will have to be fearfull to have a tx. that is supposed to save their life, not add more stress to it. Those who have it good should be appreciative, but shouldn't for a minute take things for granted because things can change for the worse in an instant, and if changes aren't made for the positive all of the "good" units could disappear; think about it; I know I do! I have an HMO and they could send me shuffling off to another unit at any time. The one I go to is pretty good, but the one right down the highway has been closed down by the state more than a few times; God forbid I end up there! I like to say when things are good, but that doesn't mean the bad should be swept under the perverbial carpet; a "housecleaning" is in order; lets get together and do it! If you can type well enough to post on the boards you have all the talent you need to contact some well placed individuals who can make changes and help those who need to know someone is on their side! Before you vote again contact those you are voting for and ask what their stance is on the dialysis industry; if they hestitate move on to someone who will help. Lin.<

Shits in asking for good reports? What does it have to do with the objective of this board?

"Like me, you could.....be unfortunate enough to stumble upon a silent war. The trouble is that once you see it, you can't unsee it. And once you've seen it, keeping quiet, saying nothing, becomes as political an act as speaking out. Either way, you're accountable."

Arundhati Roy
