This time, DuhVita has new lines. The tech said they now have to give 100 ccs saline in the lines everytime the patient gets epo. The blood is returned a different way all coming back through the venous line, as opposed to partly by the arterial and partly by the venous. The one good thing is, no more "squeezing the bag". Guess they finally accepted that that could present a liability issue. Would appreciate any info about why they went to this procedure. Why the 100ccs of saline on epo days? I hate it when they add saline to the lines as I never know if they are going to add more than they are supposed to due to not paying attention.

it appears that accountability is happening in several ways. It appears that the Federal Government realizes that we are going public. Issues that should of been addressed are finally taken seriously, and I feel are changing to benefit the patients. I am hoping that CMS will continue to do what is right and make our patients free from the industry to complain without fear of being dumped or blackballed.<
><
>More lawsuits are happening and are filed. It needs to be addressed and is being addressed on all levels. The hard work has paid off and patients are beginning to feel that they are on a level playing field. At least now a physician has to actually see the patients in order to get paid. Hopefully, they will realize the difference for home hemo patients, and not punish those that are giving options.<
><
>My methods have not always been the best. It has been taken seriously and changes have happened and will continue to happen.I feel for the first time I can put my bat back in the closet and keep due diligence until the changes are in effect. Some of my personal methods are some that I am not proud of. I personally had to work through the outrage and anger at the resistance that came from the government when they knew with documents that the industry control and patients were dying needlessly. Patients fearful to complain or even ask for non reuse and were denied, told to shut up or hit the road. To have a patient complain to the abusers were the worse thing of all. To actually have the industry self police and state that there was nothing they could ever do, with their hands tied. It appears that this is typical of self policing in any area of life. Why didnt the ESRD Network ever sound the alarm in over 30 years. Why should they, they had a perfect non accountable set up for themselves.<
><
>I feel that the industry has been able to hand pick their patients and deny care due to the fact of rumors and the patient has no say...rumors kill. If they take Federal money then they need to stop the cherry picking and the refusal of patients, and stop the rumors that make other clinics refuse. They need to be accountable at a higher level. Humanity would be nice. <
><
>I have a patient that has been blackballed with rumors and kicked out of a unit, for crimes that should of been reported to the police. However, when our lawyers received the documents, none of these charges are anywhere to be found. With the rumors and no due process, this patient it appears will need to have his due process in Federal court. This is a patient that Mr. Grassley has been aware of for months and others and has not stepped up to the plate. We are told that this patient can move. Can any of you freely want to tear up your life to live? I think many of the professionals have forgotten that many patients do not have choices to move in order to live. This is wrong, and this needs to be addressed.<
><
>I am not big enough however, to make Sen or Mr. Grassley off the hook. Not once has this man addressed a hard issue and besides being outrages "spitting" into a microphone about how any should not EVER be afraid of retaliation. Maybe the next microphone soon, he will be asked how he stayed silent, took industry money and did nothing. I now realize that a higher power will make many accountable. It would take a BIG person to apologize....but many forget that an I am sorry would let you know that they at least had feelings. A definition that a patient gave me years ago keeps playing in my ear. Many people are incapable of compassion or even empathy. Compassion is gee I feel bad, maybe I will pray for you. Empathy is gee I feel awful what can I do to help? It is the extension of the hand to lift up and help the other. Not many have this and a conscience is one that is developed before 3 or 7 or it is lacking in the equation of a human being. So basically, many are capable of feeling remorse or even caring about another, it is a character flaw, but these people respond to public opinion and embarrassment. This is also a way for others to learn. My job is not to judge, but to make all aware so this wont happen again. Do many park their hearts at the gate? Everyone of us bleeds and has someone who loves us.<
><
>The time will come that his inaction and with full knowledge tried to cover this up by empty promises and with due knowledge stayed silent. As I have always said the day of accountability for several is going to happen. I really do wish it wasnt so. An apology would help, then healing can begin.<
>I have also had to examine my behavior.<
><
>But I realize that others will do that in the documentary and the lawsuits. It appears that by not being honest in the beginning, will only
ing his and others inaction to the public. My job is over, and it is in a higher power. Our job now is to keep on top of this and next is the chemical and reuse.<
><
>But in fairness I do believe that CMS is listening now!<

Yes, my rinseback process was changed by Davita land also. The tech's clamp and disconnect one of the lines and hook it up to the saline bag I assume, then take a syringe of saline and hook it up to the other line after clamping off. The problem is while they are disconnecting they have their face down there and are
eathing all over it (hopefully not sneezing or coughing) and staring at the thing like they have never seen this before. Then slowly letting saline rinse back blood. But more mistakes can be made in this process because you are opening up the system i.e. blood spills, germs etc.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is that the doucmentary is basically finished. That the producer's are just waiting until they feel it is the best time to air it.

"Like me, you could.....be unfortunate enough to stumble upon a silent war. The trouble is that once you see it, you can't unsee it. And once you've seen it, keeping quiet, saying nothing, becomes as political an act as speaking out. Either way, you're accountable."
