Holy crap, would you LOOK at that thing?! How much money did they blow on that building?<
><
>I went to the Fresenius Medical Care site out of curiousity, because our unit is getting new machines... that headquarters building is a monster!<
><
>And yet the units are being told that they need to cut down on staff and maintenance people-- and the towel dispensers are stocked with such cheap-assed paper towels that they tear when you pull them out. Guess they're still paying for that building.

You go to the Fresenius Medical Care website, click "News and Press", then in the Photo Gallery section click "Fresenius Headquarters."

Red- That may be the headuarters in Germany anything with AG after the name is usually referred to as a corporation in Germany. Much like INC in Acme Inc. It is rather fancy no matter where it is located! I would guess they own the thing lock, stock and barrel. North America headquarters is in Lexington MA. I expect it to be quite large also but never seen photo.

Have never seen their headquarters. I do know however about the "cutbacks". The DON has a cow if too many sure seals are used. My hemoglobin is down to ten but they upped the epo. My neph. was kind of annoyed saying that my hgb. should be at 12 or above, and commented that it should be higher because they get reimbursed for it.<
>The new machines are in the unit I go to. They have olc/traffic lights. No better than old machines, just help staff figure out the kt/v. In fact, I don't like them as much because when they run the olc check the tmp and conductivity fluctuates (because of the sodium). Lin.

Can you explain that last sentence? What is the whole point of this system? I went to a unit where they had it. The doctor told me they can catch problems faster as the light will come on when machine problems occur and the tech techs must fix the problems immediately or the light will stay on.

You mean the nurses are gonna have to LOOK through the unit instead of huddling behind the nurses' desk, yapping? <
><
>Personally, I wish the new machines would have a built-in patient call switch-- trying to get the nurse's attention when you're dizzy is almost impossible if she's talking to someone else at the time.<
><
>Actually, the timing of our unit receiving these new machines is interesting... a new ARA unit is opening up in the next town, and our Medical Director is freaking out that he'll lose patients.

I too am amazed the way that some clinics allow their staff to hide behind the station only to appear like a cuckoo clock when an alarm goes off. Now you see them, now you don't.

hi everybody remember me? how's everyone been doing?<
><
>we have patient call lights in my current unit. they are greeeat! if you push the button the tech or nurse will come to check on you pretty fast. not like at my old unit..whew i saw a patient's blood spill out on the floor from the bottom of his dialyzer and no techs were even on the floor!..boy was that ever a close call! and so many times old patients would crash and i didn't know if they were dead or alive and again no techs on the floor. that place used to make me a nervous wreck that's for sure i never have figured out why people want to be techs if they don't want to take care of sick people. oh well..there's a lot of things i haven't figured out yet.<

sounds like a good thing, in theory. It's no different than before we had it really because the machines alarmed if something was wrong anyway. So now they alarm, and have traffic lights on top. Staff is supposed to correct problems anyway, and no light will guarantee they do that. A few of the staff are really friendly to me and will sometimes come over and talk. One of the nurses will invariably tell them to move on. However, they can all stand behind the nurses station and shoot the
eeze together. No way would I ever consider taking a snooze like some pts. do; while they're at one end of the nurses station anything could happen! Lin.

I have been to the FMC office in Mass. Was big but not fancy. I was glad. I would have been irritated if it had been plush. Actually, our unit is nicer.

Yeah, some of the cheifs care about what happens to the patients and some you can look into their eyes and see dollar signs.

"Like me, you could.....be unfortunate enough to stumble upon a silent war. The trouble is that once you see it, you can't unsee it. And once you've seen it, keeping quiet, saying nothing, becomes as political an act as speaking out. Either way, you're accountable."
