Anyone know what's going on with this bill? If Congress recesses in August, will it go forward or have to be proposed again when Congress resumes?<

According to Dr. Blagg, "HR1004 is going nowhere with the current Medicare bill but it is good until the end of this Congress in November 2004." Dr. Blagg went on to suggests that getting more cosponsors is the best strategy for pushing 1004 forward.<

>Notice that Reps from Washington, Virginia and New York are all well represented on the list of cosponsors. Those States all have ongoing more frequent dialysis programs. I think a good strategy would be to target the California delegation for two reasons. One they are the largest delegation and two there are more frequent dialysis programs in California. If you live in California write your representative and suggest they visit a dialysis center that offers more frequent treatments.<

What exactly would this do? Would it allow for more frequent in center treatments or would the reimbursement be for home daily/ nocturnal only? Do you think that payment for more frequent hemo would give the clinics an incentive to begin to offer these home hemo programs or would the same status quo exist? Athough there would be payment for additional treatments, there is still a nurse shortage and many clinics say they are still underreimbursed and cannot afford to offer new programs because of these two reasons.

In the centers that offer home hemo the nurses training is reimbursed to the center by the government. With a nursing shortage home hemo is a good option as less nurses are required per patient population.
