Senator Hickenlooper,
I'm a staunch Democrat, however even I have to wonder if there is a glimmer of hope for the Cassidy-Crapo healthcare bill. Senator Cassidy's idea of Flexible Savings Accounts looks a lot like it is from the universal healthcare system he was looking into back in 2016-2017: Singapore's. I wrote about it back in the day and what I had to say was published in the Fort Collins Coloradoan. Bloomberg News has talked about how Singapore's system is very efficient and cost-effective, and the World Health Organization loves its outcomes! I know the Democrats are worried about junk insurance - and rightfully so! But I hope you and colleagues are considering a public option if you wind up giving the Cassidy-Crapo bill a chance! And I'm also thinking if the problem is thrown to the states, I would be all in favor of it! I would love to see a system like Singapore's in our state!
At a town hall meeting I was at, a lady was worried about sick people coming from out of state to use our system. The candidate, John Padora, pointed high cost of living here could potentially slow that down - and they are sick. I would also add we shouldn't keep a crappy healthcare system just to keep people away. Another thought is it could be like how we were popular for marijuana for a while, but that slowed down after other states started legalizing it. And the last thing I will say comes from my phobia of centralized power (Medicare-for-All, yeah maybe, I don't know). I've been a kidney dialysis advocate for about 25 years now, and my friends and I have seen the worst that large, centralized, for-profits can do!
I hope all partisanship will be put aside and we will see a bill for the American people!
Regards,
Chris Schwab
